Bring Em Back
Andrew: There
have been so many people come through the doors of the USAFL. Some have
quietly played and left without being noticed, while others made grand
entrances and made impressions on everyone before they were even in the
league 24 hours. I seem to recall a certain person who enthusiastically
joined and within 24 hours had already instigated three separate heated arguments
with veteran GMs. Needless to say, that person wasn't around to enjoy
another 24 hours in the league.
But you have to take the good with the bad. And the league sure did have a
lot of good, check that, great GMs during the past 50 seasons. Here are
some of the few I would love to see return to our midst:
Pete Mayhew - Pete was the Dallas Cowboys GM after Nate Rupple (original
DAL GM) left. Pete was an all around great guy and he loved being in the
league. He had to move and we never heard from him again.
Chad Allen - He was GM of the Kansas City Chiefs. Was a regular
contributor to the website storylines. He had me in stitches numerous
times.
Tim Gilberg/Jeff Hulbert - Has there ever been another GM for the Minnesota Vikings?
That franchise always seemed as if they were one season away from winning
it all. Shame neither one couldn't stick around to finally get a championship after
being in the league for many seasons.
Dave Aiello - the consummate Packers GM. The Packers always had the
league's worst GMs, until Dave rolled into town. He nearly performed a
miracle by getting that horrific team turned around and into the
post-season. You have to wonder what that team would have looked like if
he could have stayed around to continue reloading the team into a dynasty.
Mike Morton - one of the old die-hards. I think I created a monster there.
He loved our league so much, he went out and started a few of his own.
Very successful I might add. He and his wife Amy both contributed a lot to
our community and have been missed for quite some time.
Ryan Silvis - The Cincinnati Bengals have never had another GM. Ryan was
the original Salary Cap Director in the early days and a great friend to
all the guys from those days. I tried hard to track him down, but all
leads were dead ends.
Mike Breeden - not having Mike around probably hurts the most. I
personally relied on Mike as I ran the league. He was always available for
opinions and insights whenever I needed assistance. And heck, he was an
awesome GM too. Little known fact - Mike was the original Buffalo Bills
GM.
Chris Kampitsis - I think everyone misses not seeing this guy around. Give
Chris a two-minute hold period during the draft and he would have everyone
rolling in laughter. His most famous moment: in mIRC, he would assume the
identities of each of the GMs and do deadpan impersonations. And this is
all text! Quite an accomplishment. My ribs hurt so much from laughing. I
wish I would have saved the log file from that night. It was absolutely
priceless.

Bill: Definitely the KAMP. No one was funnier in losing.
Todd: Chris Kampitsis
Fred: Mike Breeden. Clearly the best of the retired ones. Cleveland never got back from his retirement.
Ben: Not exactly retired, but it'd be nice if the old Tim Arkwright was around, it was fun back in the day to watch his teams win and win and win and go up against my dad's teams and lose ;-)
Tom: I miss Chris Kampitsis. Chris was a great trader, always friendly, and just very outgoing. Talking to him didn't just mean talking about USAFL. Very good guy to have around, even if he did always steal the Spirit Award.
Joe: I liked dealing with Tim Gilberg when he had the Vikings. He was a pretty good GM.
Flip: MIKE BREEDEN
Mike: Ryan
Silvis.

One season, I was a day late in getting the rookies published. So the
storyline went,
that I was rocking up at Woodstock 99 and refused to come back to deal
with the league.
