Small Changes, Big Results?

Carolina tweaks roster in hopes of big year
By "Bucky Katz"

Off-Season 2088 (Charlotte) - They had no picks in this year's draft and they might have traded some future ones, but the Carolina Panthers feel with their much less active offseason than usual they are loaded for bear in a tough division.

The biggest news was the resigning of LB Andre DeLong, a big part of their defense along with franchise player LB Brent Altenhoff. An attempt to lure speedy Miami DE Kenneth Odomes to Carolina was unsucessful, so the Panthers further improved the defense with the acquisition of DE Eugene Washington from New England to add some speed and depth to that improving defensive line. That depth will allow Carolina to go to that 4-3 defense they have wanted to go to for several years but did not have the depth for.

Then the Panthers set out to improve the offensive line depth and get some younger guys there for the future. Last season Carolina had four offensive linemen with 10 years experience or longer and one, center Kenton Price, was their lone retirement in the offseason. So it was imperative to get some new blood in there.

So enter T Johnny Jones, a former first round pick from Miami, and number two overall pick in the 2083 draft, C Victor Coryatt. With younger players like G Wendell Bono, and tackles Steve Clark and Winston Matthews already around, these linemen will be the anchor of a unit for several years to come.

With Coryatt now in the fold, the Panthers now have the first two picks and five players from the first round in that 2083 draft on their roster. Now the players drafted and acquired by GM 'Trader' Lee Remley the past few seasons have to put it all together soon to deliver on that potential that both their new fans in Carolina and the players alike are expecting from them.
