Chiefs Retool Offense

Chiefs use draft picks to build for the future
By "Slim Pickens"

Pre-Season 2079 (River Falls) -  With 4 picks in the top 25 picks the Cheifs retool the offense with the picks of #5 C Troy Williams, #7 HB Bennie Mayberry, #23 QB Reggie Shepard, #25 TE Paul Alexander. The Chiefs offense is loaded with aging veterans at several locations particularly ones where the players were drafted. A look at the anaylis of the players and where they fit into the depth chart:

QB
Steve Flint vs. Reggie Shepard
Flint has 11 years on Shepard but look for Shepard to have a strong training camp and take the job from Flint. Shepard should be a longstanding member of the Chiefs for years to come.

HB
HB Mike Pretence vs. HB Pierre Mann vs. HB Jonnie Query vs. HB Bennie Mayberry

Mayberry has some stiff competition for the job, he has the tools to compete with Jonnie Query and Pierre Mann on the skills department, but Mann has the Intelligence factor on him. Mayberry will end up being on special teams as well as possibly the third down back for the Chiefs.

OL
OL Troy Williams vs. ??
The Cheifs OL is shambles, most of them are weak as water and have concrete cleats. Williams should make an immediate impact. Look for him to become an established leader in OL very soon.

TE
Walker vs. Jones vs. Alexander
Walker is th number 1 guy, the problem with Walker is his poor route running ability. Jones is a good route runner but lacks the hands to be a true #1 TE. Alexander is a project who has the potential to be a legit TE, only time will tell with this 1st rounder.

This is Slim Pickens covering the Chiefs from River Falls, I am out, see you at Arrowhead.
