Osgood in Carolina

Panthers bite the bullet and re-sign stud free agent DL
By "Bucky Katz"

Off-Season 2101 (Charlotte) - After initially thinking they would have to let DT Osgood Morrison go after he got a 16.5 million free agent offer from the New York football Giants, the Panthers stepped up at the last minute and signed the young stud to a multi-year deal.

'We were tight against the cap so we resigned ourselves to losing Oz at first,' Panthers GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said. 'But after playing with the numbers, we found a way to make it happen.'

Morrison was pleased to stay in Carolina.

'A lot of us guys have basically grown as football players together,' the big tackle said. 'So I'm glad we will be able to stick together and bring a championship to the Carolina.'

Many fans were glad to see the Panthers restock the coffers at this year's draft after several retirements. GM Remley was praised for making the deals to get that done, even after nixing trade offers for future picks for a couple of seasons.

The Panthers also announced the cuts of four players in what was believed to be an effort to get under the cap after signing Morrison. Several rookies have been seen auditioning for the final roster spots left open from the cuts.
