Malloy Criticizes Post For Capper Story

However, story may have an impact on Monte Owen's decision to sign Franchise Player contract

Off-Season 2106 (Albany, NY) - The New York Post newspaper recently printed an article that stated that there was a free agency offer sheet ready to be submitted for the 2107 USAFL Free Agency market to Bills quarterback Morgan Capper in the amount of 44 million dollars. Giants general manager Joe Malloy today did not deny that he did fill out an offer sheet for next season's free agency market, however, he criticized the Post for how they obtained their story.

'The unnamed insider was the dumpster outside my office.' Malloy said. 'I crumpled the offer sheet up and tossed it into the trash when Capper signed his franchise player deal. I guess since Rupert Murdoch the Fourth took over the reigns of the Post recently, they've gone back to doing their dumpster diving for stories and sensationalist journalism. How sad.'

Malloy then explained that the offer sheet was something he had drawn up as possible plans for the 2107 free agency market, and nothing was set in stone.

'I have trade offers and free agency offers dancing around in my head all the time. Some I put on paper and think about it later, and some I put on official documents, ready for submission if I choose to do so. I'd say 90% of the time I never act on it. I'm sure if the Post continued to dig deep in my trash they'd probably see some ridiculous trade offers that I have thrown away.'

Malloy praised Capper when asked about the now-infamous 44 million dollar offer sheet. 'He's a once in a lifetime quarterback. Who wouldn't want a championship winning guy on their team? He's not just the face of the Bills, but he's the face of the USAFL right now. He's an international brand name now. He's done commercials in Europe and Japan for all sorts of products. It's not just the thought of him being the final piece of a championship puzzle, but it's the thought of getting worldwide exposure. The Bills are probably the most popular non-soccer team in the entire world right now, and who wouldn't want a piece of that?'

The praise and offer sheet discovery, however, may impact the team in the future. The agent for quarterback Monte Owen, who was the MVP in the 2105 season, reported to USA Today that he was 'upset at the thought of the Giants thinking about replacing him.'

'Shortly after the Post article, and the announcement from the Bills about franchising Capper, my client received a franchise player offer sheet. He called me and wondered why he would sign the sheet when the Giants were thinking about replacing him. He was very upset and has not spoken to the team or to Malloy as of yet.' agent Bob Neidhart said to USA Today. 'He may fetch a lot of money on the free agency market, so unless Owen has a change of heart and signs, he's more than willing to test the market for a team that may be able to appreciate him.'
