Trevor Gash 99 Yard Touchdown Run Sets Record

Eagles 'D' Gets Dubious Distinction
By "Crenshaw Withycombe"

Regular Season 2106 (Philadelphia, PA.) - Trevor Gash set the tone in the Cincinnati Bengal's Week 10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles by setting a record. Backed against the goal line in the first quarter, Gash took a pitch to the outside and flew by the Eagles defense for a 99 yard touchdown run.

The run was the longest in league history, by a long shot. The record stood for 33 seasons. In 2073, the Dallas Cowboys Chuck Hodson had the most beautiful run in league history - a 94 yard touchdown run against the Washington Redskins. The famous run is constantly played in highlight reels. Curiously, Hodson's run came in Week 10 that season.

Another rushing record is building suspense, as it could be broken this year. The Chicago Bears defense is looking to break the 91 year old Modern Record for yards allowed per carry (1.98). The record was set in 2015 by the Buffalo Bills. That year, opponents carried the ball 311 times into the Bills' defensive herd, gaining a mere 615 yards.

However, the 2015 Bills do not own the record for Fewest Rushing Yards Allowed in the Modern Era. That distinction goes to the 2025 Tampa Bay Buccanears (608).

Many pundits feel the Bears will break both records. The longest run the Bears have allowed this year is 21 yards, and they have also only allowed 21 rushing first downs. The fewest rushing first downs allowed in a season is 32 (record in 2015 by the Buffalo Bills). The Bears could very well break three Modern Era records in run defense, which would very likely make the legendary Brad Houska proud. Houska was known for his staunch run defenses, building his Super Bowl champions on incredible 4-6 defenses. Fans of Chicago are happy to see GM Z-Bo Zabroski continue that tradition and look forward to seeing the Bears in the Sundby Cup.
