Buffalo Bothered By Beaten Banter

Bills' players are using recent talks of their demise as motivation

Off-Season 2107 (Orchard Park, NY) - A new piece of equipment showed up in the Bills' locker room this past week. Made of cork and wood, you'd think it was a throwback tackling dummy to be placed in the USAFL's museum of history. But this piece of equipment comes with push pins and doles out tons of motivation. A new bulletin board was immediately filled with articles and quotes about the franchise's upset loss in the 2106 playoffs and how it may signal the end of an era. Nobody in this organization is buying it.

'We’re using it as motivation” team leader Morgan Capper announced. “Nobody was pleased with how last season ended. To a man, we felt last season was going to be special, but Houston played a remarkable game. I think the recent stories heralding the end of the road have everyone playing with a chip on their shoulder. We’re ready to play our game and finish like we know how. We’re confident this team is still capable of the success our fans are used to.”

Many were surprised Buffalo went 13 – 1 last season after what was, in a way, a rebuilding year in some key areas. With major holes to fill at FB, OL and DL and with a completely new 3 – 4 scheme, 10 wins was considered a long shot. But with a full season under their belt and some bulletin board motivation, this too could be a special year.

One thing working against them, however, is time. While the competitive core of this team has remained remarkably intact over the last 5 seasons, many of those players are getting long in the tooth. Add the fact that there were some mediocre drafts, and the team’s depth has suddenly become sparse.

Will that brand new bulletin board become a montage of a successful future? Or a poster board of past success? Only the players in this room can answer that question.
