2111 SWA Awards a Team Affair

Chicago HB Stams wins MVP; Dallas LB Hoover wins ROY

Playoffs 2111 (Tempe, AZ) - The SportsWriters Association announced their 2111 Regular Season Awards this evening and there is only one way to describe the player group results – team domination.

Gaining 2,000yds on the ground is usually never overlooked once the awards start rolling out and this season was no different. Chicago HB John Stams was named MVP as he again guided his team into the playoffs while rushing for 2,076yds and 7 TD’s for a league leading 5.3yds per carry. But Stams was not alone on the ballot. Three of the top four spots were held by Chicago Bears (QB Tony Reuther -2nd; DE Edward Rogers – 4th). Stams becomes the first RB to win the award since 2108, which, coincidentally, was also won by a Chicago HB who gained over 2,000yds – Roger Koffard.

With the second straight season to contain a dominant defensive rookie, Dallas LB Hiram Hoover was named Rookie of the Year. He was the only player named on all seven ballots and his 81 tackles and 9 Sacks led all rookies. Many feel he will be the defensive corner stone the Cowboys have been looking for. But much like the MVP voting, Hoover was in good company as four of the seven players to receive votes were from the Dallas Cowboys. Standout rookie WR Kevin Munoz came in 2nd Place, only 5 points behind Hoover.

GM of the Year was awarded to Carolina GM Lee Remley as “Trader” Lee oversaw a turnaround from a 7-7 season in 2110 to 11-3 and home field advantage in this year’s playoffs. Strengthened by his team’s finish and his off season moves, Remley was the clear winner over Minnesota’s Lou Lombardo and Green Bay’s Todd Ricotta. Overall, eight front office leaders received at least one vote each.

Congratulations to all of the winners.
