Chiefs Release QB Ricky Brown

By "John Capone"

Playoffs 2113 (St. Louis, MO) - We have not even seen a post season game yet and the Chiefs have already released QB Ricky Brown. 'The bottom line, is the bottom line,' GM Harrison was quoted in the press conference. 'We had switched to a more conservative type offense to take some of the pressure of our QB. Grant it, Jerry (McHugh, RB) is not going to dominate a game, but you can't fumble the ball 10 times and throw 20 interceptions and expect to still have a job in this league. Maybe another team will see something - we gave him his shot, we're done with him.'

Some wonder if Harrison was not a little tough on him, this was his first season as a starter, a career back up to HOF'er Greg Toliver. But undoubtedly, the QB will take some heat for a 3-11 finish if he's contributing to 25 turnovers himself.

Barring a trade, Alonzo Perry should regain the starting job he lost. The Chiefs picked him up two seasons ago after Detroit cut him and he was handed the starting job after a solid training camp. The Chiefs went 5-9 that season, so Brown was given a shot. Perry played well, throwing 16 TD's and only 8 INT's, managing the offense as best as possible. Clearly, this past season's rookie, Depue, is not ready to take over the offense.
