Panthers hope Griffin will be a family guy

Can Hinnant save the franchise?

Off-Season 2115 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers got what might be their next franchise quarterback and last year's starter is not happy after the team acquired QB Griffin Hinnant from the Balitmore Ravens for LB Brett Erickson and a 3rd round pick.

Hinnant was in the same draft class as Ravens franchise quarterback Donnell Belfatto and seemingly destined to be his backup. Then fate called in the form of the Panthers.

'The trade came out of the blue,' Hinnant said. 'I had no clue anyone wanted me.'

Apparently Carolina had not been satisified with their quarterback position for quite some time.

'As time went by, we felt we need a more effective quarterback for this team's future,' Panthers GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said at the press conference announcing the trade. 'We see great things in this young man.'

'I think he has a lot of Fred Jones in him,' Commissioner Andrew Lewis commented when hearing of the trade, referring to the legendary Carolina quarterback Kevin Jones who is now the team's offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile, the man who was runner up in the league MVP voting just two seasons ago is not a happy camper. Such is the fate of many who follow in the wake of a legend.

'They didn't even mention my name when they said they got this guy,' last year's starter Rhett Pankey said. 'I don't know what they plan to do with me. I just hope they get me out of here if they don't want me any more.'

'Competition is healthy,' Remley said when asked to comment on Pankey's situation.
