Hinnant stays in Carolina

Panthers match free agent offer from Cincinnati

Off-Season 2118 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers announced today that they have matched the 6 year, $16 million per season offer sheet that free agent quarterback Griffin Hinnant received from the Cincinnati Bengals.

'We had no intention of letting Griffin get away,' GM 'Trader' Lee Remley told the assembled media as the team announced the signing. 'He is our franchise quarterback and we are glad to have him in the fold for six more seasons.'

Hinnant's signing may mean that the Panthers will let DE Johnny Ware, who also got a free agent offer, leave for division rival Minnesota.

'I feel sad for Johnny because he was a strong contender to start this season here,' Remley commented. 'He may get lost in the shuffle with all those great players in Minnesota. But we wish him well. We have some good talent on our defensive line, so we'll be all right.'
