Panthers match big free agent offer to White

Carolina meets Green Bay's contract to young offensive lineman

Off-Season 2140 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers called a huge press conference today with cake and everything to announce they matched Green Bay's free agent offer to center Jackie White - all five million of it.

'That must have been all dude could find in his couch cushions,' White laughed at the press conference after signing the contract, referring to the Green Bay owner's offer. 'I didn't even expect an offer at all, so I guess I should be happy at the extra mil.'

This was a far cry from the offers the free wheeling Todd Ricotta would make when he ran the franchise, so you can pardon the players if they find that five million figure a little strange. But the former big cheesehead is running Chicago and has been for some time now.

'I'm sure Jackie was just having a little fun at Jeff's expense,' Panthers GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said when questioned about the possibility of bulletin board material. 'I think the Packers have other things to fire them up about as far as we are concerned.'
