Green Replaces Tang Again

Birds hire Mike Green to replace retiring Art Tang
By "Joey Scarfone"

Off-Season 2081 (Philadelphia) - It was twenty years ago that Art Tang hung up his cleats after 16 seasons of starting for the Philadelphia Eagles at QB. Mike Green was called upon to replace the retiring legend back then and the Eagles have called upon Green to do the same now as Head Coach.

Tang steps down from coaching after a 16 season career with a 104-120 record. The local press had been calling for his firing the last five seasons after the Birds went 4-10, 6-8, 6-8, 3-11 from '76 thru '79. The Eagles rebounded last season, going 8-6, and went to the playoffs, bowing out in the first round to the eventual champion Green Bay Packers, 28-10.

The Philly fans remained loyal to Tang largely in part to his career as a player. Tang remains the league's 2nd All-Time leading QB in most yards gained (148yds behind #1 Sonny Vail). Tang still holds several of the QB rookie records set back in the 2046 season. Tang was also the last QB to lead the Eagles to a USAFL championship (2057).

Mike Green spent the last three seasons as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach and played 14 seasons for the team, retiring after the 2074 season.

Theo Grimes will remain the team's Defensive Coordinator. Green announced that he will not hire an Offensice Coordinator as he will be calling the plays.

Green also announced that he will be installing the Spread offense, the same offense he thrived in as a player. The Eagles have also scrapped their 4-3 defense in favor of the more conservative 3-4 scheme. Grimes never played in that scheme on the professional level, but the 3-4 was the established scheme at his alma mater, Wisconsin.
