Who's The Man For New York?

After working out several top defensive backs, Radford no longer considered a slam dunk

Off-Season 2160 (Albany, NY) - After getting scouting reports for this upcoming draft, the New York Giants were almost ready to call teams from around the league, looking to shop picks for linebackers.

'These linebackers stink. We need linebackers.' an unnamed Giants scout said. 'Heck, we went up and down the list and no one at any position really stood out to us. We were going to shop our picks in this draft.'

Suddenly, a scouting report crossed GM Joe Malloy's desk. The scouting report was for defensive back Kelly Radford.

'On paper, the kid would step in and contribute right away on pass defense.' the same scout said. 'Malloy was quickly on the phone with Minnesota and the deal was done for the #1 pick in record time.'

With the draft quickly approaching, and a contract for Radford just about written up, Malloy had spent the last week looking at the scouting reports for several other defensive backs. Suddenly, Malloy wasn't so sure that Radford was going to be the #1 pick.

Malloy got on the phone with Radford, and invited him to the Giants training facilities. Radford was not the only one Malloy was on the phone with.

Since Thursday afternoon, Radford had been working out at the training facilities with fellow defensive backs Chuck Brock, Pete Joyner, Clarence Miles, Brandon Jackson, George Nichols, and Darryl Kile. So far, it appears that the decision on who the #1 pick will be a tough one, as each player seems to have impressed the Giants coaching staff.

'Okay, it's fine. There are a lot of good players here.' Radford said. 'I feel a little disappointed that I might not be the #1 pick after all, but I'm just gonna have to work hard and hope I can convince the Giants that I'm their man.'
