New faces down by the river

Bengals welcome 21 new players to their team this offseason

Off-Season 2165 (Cincinnati) - These aren't your daddy's Bengals. Or even a lot of the same guys there last year.

Cincinnati welcomed 21 new players to their practice facility this offseason. Eight draft picks, 13 more via trades. They had 66 players in camp at one point. 13 players from last year's roster were cut in the final cuts today. Three were traded away.

Needless to say, GM 'Trader' Lee Remley has been busy.

'In this division, you either keep up or get left behind,' Remley commented on the eve of training camp. 'We redoubled our efforts this offseason. Not just to win this year, but to build for the future.'

A couple new receivers. A couple more offensive linemen. A prime time corner. And plenty of young players.

'If anybody asks me where's the beef, I can show them these guys,' QB Courtney McLemore said, an arm on the shoulder of each of his two new offensive linemen, Eugene Eldridge and Jeff Oliver.

Offensive line had been a concern of this team and its followers the past few seasons, but many feel they plugged those holes as well as adding some depth at that position for later seasons.

But mainstays such as McLemore and halfback Mike Cummings are still there to cause their opponents fits.

'We didn't blow it up, we just did some big time renovation,' Remley joked.

With their division rivals virutally standing pat, it remains to be seen if those renovations pay off with another division title, or should we dare to hope, a Sundby?

'I'd like to get one before I'm done,' Mclemore said.

We wish him luck with that.
