Roden Rescues Ricotta

Embattled QB brings home Sundby Cup
By "Jerry Sullivan VI"

Pre-Season 2213 (Orchard Park, NY) - What a difference a year and a scathing editorial make. Buffalo Bills QB Chris Roden silenced critics and most likely saved GM Mark Ricotta’s long tenured job. The Bills took on a powerful New Orleans team in this year’s Sundby Cup game and came away with an unlikely victory. The stats sheet will say that HB Mike Williams was the MVP, but speak with any of the players on that team, and you get a different story.

Embattled QB Roden was the spark that ignited the fire. Or perhaps it was yours truly. I caught a lot of flak for writing the article that called out Roden and Ricotta (sounds like a trashy law firm, no?). But many said I was spot on. The Bills for years have been stout on the defensive side of the ball, but Ricotta just could not find the right leader for his offense. Well, be it serendipity, maturity or divinity, Ricotta’s belief in Roden finally paid off.

And perhaps it will continue to pay dividends, but consider me skeptical. He still has not found the heir apparent for his QB position. And have you seen the Bills last 11 draft picks? All Defensive Linemen! I guess one thing’s for certain – you can’t say Ricotta doesn’t build upon his team’s strengths. But at some point, he’s going to have to address the team’s weaknesses. Maybe this article will spurn another unlikely outcome. We shall see….
