Off-Season 2247 (Cincinnati) - The Cincinnati Bengals today shelled out some big bucks in free agency to keep their offense together. Most notable was the signing of QB Duncan McKenzie to a five year, $29 million per year deal, matching the offer from division rival Buffalo, and making him easily the highest paid player in Bengals history.

The other notable signing was of veteran offensive lineman Byron Ackerman to a $6 million a year contract, keeping together an offensive line that both protects McKenzie in the passing game and are prolific run blockers for HB Woody Griffith.

Cincinnati GM “Trader” Lee Remley made the following announcement on the deal: “It is not often you find a solid franchise quarterback, so we feel Duncan is well worth the price. We look forward to many more years of him leading our team.”

Bengals fans were pleased that the organization kept their team intact. With Cincinnati now back in the playoffs, fans want them to stay there for many years.

As for McKenzie, he is still shell shocked.

“I am goin’ ta buy some land in the Highlands of Scotland and build me a big house,” McKenzie said. “Other than that, I have no idea except savin’ for me retirement. This is a dream come true for any player, especially for a Scotsman from tha hills.”

How far can the Bengals go with their mix of vets and youngsters? We’ll see in the upcoming season.
