Packer/Seahawk Great Goes Out on Top

Playoffs 2269 (Green Bay, WI) - As Fred Roberson prepares for the playoffs, he has made it known that he is retiring after the season. The defensive lineman was the first overall selection in the 2256 draft, the same year Green Bay GM Mark Thul took over the team.

'Given the disorganized state of the Packers, I was jealous of Seattle's opportunity to draft Roberson,' Thul reflected. 'It's not often you see a player of his caliber, and we were lucky to acquire him.'

Indeed they were. In 2264, Thul traded a large number of picks to new GM Jeff Muszynski's Seattle team for Roberson and Turner.

'I recall Jeff decided he didn't have enough pieces to compete and wanted to build from scratch,' stated Thul.

This past season, Roberson likely became the first player in USAFL history to pass 300 career regular-season sacks (only likely, since USAFL records aren't entirely compiled yet.) The previous consensus career record was 287 sacks by former Packer Ozzie Ellerson from 2141-2154.

'It just goes to show,' said Packer super-fan Carl Gerbschmidt, 'only a Packer can claim the role of greatest ever. It takes a Packer to beat a Packer.'

At his press conference, Roberson reflected on his career.

'It has been an honor to play in this league for so long,' stated Roberson. 'I've had some great teammates on both clubs, and I look forward to retiring in the Seattle area. It's so much nicer there than Green Bay. The people are so weird here.'
