Draft Night Review

Another fine draft they got us into

Off-Season 2288 (Radio City Muaic Hall) - It was a star studded night in New York as they hung stars up with studs in them around the room.

Philadelphia GM Andrew Lewis summed up the mood of the evening shouting 'DRAFT NIGHT!!!' as a 40 ounce one sat in front of him.

One of the highlights of the evening later on was Lewis commenting that the Miami GM must have already had 3 or 4 of those 40 ounce drafts after seeing Miami's first round pick. Miami's GM Mike Morton responded later from Miami Beach asking 'who the heck Andrew Kiper was anyway?'

As for the college players on the board this season, it seemed like a bumper first round crop that lasted onto the later rounds in some cases. A lot of teams amassed some great talent this night.

Another highlight of the evening was New York Giants GM Addam Brown and his technical difficulties. The draft room erupted in applause when told the Giants would be unable to draft live. Incidentally, this would end up being one of the fastest drafts in league history.

Carolina GM 'Trader' Lee Remley was heard later to lament the failure at #6 to draft stud WR Garrett Young with a clear need at WR, especially after often Sundby opponent Baltimore scooped him up at #8. With so many great players on the board, however, it was hard to lose early no matter who you picked.

Speaking of Baltimore GM Mark Thul, he really worked the room, making positive comments on all the picks and passing out buttons for his Galactic Senate run later in the year.

Finally, an odd pairing occurred as Green Bay Packers superfan Carl Gerbschmidt seemed to hit it off with the Ricotta brothers. According to Mr. Gerbschmidt, who was not invited, by the way, 'Todd's OK, he used to run the Packers and Mark is his brother.' They left together after the proceedings apparently to share a particularly potent portion of limburger cheese from Wisconsin. At least, that was the story.

All in all, it was a special night worthy of a great league.

The next draft is scheduled for Philadelphia, where GM Lewis promises to ring the Liberty Bell to kick things off.
