The Evan Green "Error" Comes To An End

Troubled HB sent to Patriots in unusual Deal
By "John Jones"

Off-Season 2090 (Albany, NY) - In one of the more unusual trades in recent USAFL history, the New York Giants sent Evan Green to the New England Patriots for a 2090 4th round pick. This trade comes weeks after head coach Freeman Williams declared Kevin Wood the starting halfback for the 2090 season.

After week 10, Williams declared Wood the starter for the new season. He said at the time 'Wood has worked hard off the bench and is ready to start in this league. He is finally going to get the chance to prove that he can start, and we hope for 2090 and beyond he'll be a consistent 1000 yard rusher.'

Those comments pretty much sealed Green's fate. Moments after trading was reopened, the Giants and Patriots agreed to the deal. What makes the deal unusual is, the Patriots won't have to pay Green anything. Although, according to USAFL rules, Green's contract does count towards the Patriots' cap. The Giants have been going after Green due to breach of contract, and this trade pretty much is an out of court settlement.

'Green wanted all of his money for his first contract up front, so we gave it to him. Sadly, he spent it all and the Giants want it back.' said an unnamed source in the Giants organization. 'Green's flat broke until 2094 unless the Patriots give him a Franchise Player contract. Even then, according to the deal, in the event of Green being named a Franchise Player, he is going to have to pay the cost of his original contract back to the Giants. The same will go for when he becomes a free agent. He shot himself in the foot, pretty much.'
