Chiefs Tag DT Schlereth

Pre-Season 2090 (Kansas City. MO) - After a stellar training camp, the Chiefs offered DL Bob Schlereth a 5th year franchise tag, and Schlereth's agent wasted no time in getting the contract signed. 'I've still got to improve, I know,' said Schlereth. 'They didn't offer this contract based on where I am at today. They saw some things in training camp, where I was busting my butt, and everything came together today.'

'We had to do this,' said Kansas City's GM Harrison. 'I believe Bob is going to be REALLY special in another season or two. If I don't take the opportunity now to lock in the 12 million, we'll be paying close to 20 next season. We had the cap room and franchise tag available and nobody else was in the mix for a franchise tag. We made a good decision, I'm sure of it.'

This still leaves the Chiefs one franchise tag available and they are still almost 7 million under the cap. In 2085 he was taken in the third round, behind DE Stan Risor, whom the Chiefs drafted 7th overall. It will be interesting to see how Stan handles this.
