Carrington Rewarded With Rare FP Contract

It's Been 19yrs Since Last Eagles' FP Signing

Pre-Season 2090 (South Philadelphia) - Just a few hours ago, Philadelphia Eagles General Manager Andrew Lewis formally announced that his franchise has renegotiated the contract of the former #7 overall pick of the 2085 draft, DL Leon Carrington, to an FP5 contract that will pay him a reported 12 million annually for the remainder of his career.

While the Eagles have had several Franchise Players on their roster throughout the years, most of them have been acquired via trade. The last time the Birds signed a player that they drafted to a Franchise Player contract was back in 2071 when they signed the #1 overall pick of the 2068 draft, DL Theo Grimes to an exclusive FP3 deal.

Grimes got his contract renegotiated along with his teammate LB Dennis Pankey. Pankey was Houston's 2066 #9 overall selection and he arrived in Philly via a trade in 2069. The Eagles shipped two veteran offensive linemen, Dale Stewart and Napoleon Perry in return for a young Pankey. Dale Stewart as anchors the Texans' offensive unit as their starting center, while Napoleon Perry did not see eye to eye with Houston's front office staff. Perry was placed on the InActive list his first season with the Texans .... and was a no-call, no-show at training camp the following season.

Before the Grimes/Pankey signings, you have to go back to late 50's when the Birds signed DLs Sam Bentley and Danny Robinson. Both of whom entered the league in 2056. Bentley was the #2 overall selection behind Tennesee's DL Emile Weidner. Robinson was selected late in the 4th round. Both players retired after 14 seasons in the league.

Leon Carrington, despite being the 2nd DL selected in the 2085 College Draft, only has 4 sacks in his young career. By comparison, DT Wesley Moon was the 1st DL selected that night with the 4th overall selection and has amassed 21 sacks in his career with the Washington Redskins.

GM Lewis has reportedly said that he sees something special in Carrington and he doesn't want to risk losing him to Free Agency in 2091.
