Wood: "The Team Wasn't The Problem."

New Giants staring halfback responds to Green
By "John Jones"

Pre-Season 2090 (Albany, NY) - It was only a pre-season game, but while most pre-season games are meaningless in the eyes of the media and players, Kevin Wood takes them very seriously.

'It's a chance to show everyone what you and your team can be capable of.' Wood said following a Giants pre-season victory. 'I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.'

Wood only ran the ball 7 times as a member of the first team offense in this game, but he was able to break several long gains and finished with a total of 66 yards.

'Hey, I'm running behind a line with Jay Lee and Lazar Kato. How great is that? You have to be a really bad player with issues if you can't at least do something with these two big daddies in front of you. The team looks pretty good this season and 2090 should be a big step for us. I hope I can take advantage of the opportunity unlike the last guy in my position. It's obvious the team wasn't the problem.'

Wood, the fourth year player out of Dartmouth, has turned a few heads so far this pre-season with his performance, and his performances as a back-up halfback so far in his young career have given the Giants hope.

'You have to be upbeat and hungry to succeed in this league. You can't show up to training camps and games flashing gold and an attitude like everything's going to come easy. It'd be nice but it's not reality. I've read the article in your magazine. Green's still got the bad attitude like it's going to be easy. How's he doing in training camp, huh?'

In the last issue of SI, Evan Green stated that 'The player wasn't the problem' when he was asked about his time with the Giants.

'If the player wasn't the problem, how come I'm hearing he couldn't handle simple bench presses or strength tests? How come he's having problems in the preseason games on the second team offense? He's looking no different over in New England than he did over here. A lot of people are wondering why Malloy up there traded him for just a fourth round pick. I think hearing the reports and watching him on TV's the proof right there. Again, the team wasn't the problem.'

Hopefully for the Giants and their fans, Wood will make the team and fans forget the Evan Green era.

'It was a dark time for the franchise, and I'm just hoping I can do what I can to help everyone forget he was ever here.'
