Rumors say it's a done deal

Playoffs 2093 (Cincinnati, OH) - Sources inside the Bengals front office say that Cincinnati has already agreed to a deal with the #1 overall pick in the draft.

The playoffs haven't yet concluded but it has already been determined that the Bengals will be choosing first in the coming college draft.

The team has not released any official word, but one source inside had this to say;

'They have a policy about not making public statments like this, but I can tell you that it's a done deal.'

The source wouldn't name the player because that would violate team rules, but other sources have been quick to stand up and name names.

'Sappington. They would be fools not to take this kid. His speed and agility along with his strength will make him an instant impact in this league.'

The Bengals have been one of the most inconsisten teams in the USAFL over the past few years, and this is something that the team is hoping to remedy with a new drafting strategy.

GM James Barr released the following statement;

'We have had a few good years and some others that we just want to forget about. We won a division title, made a good run in the playoffs a few years ago, but we have never been able to get over that hump.

After many hours of research and brainstorming it became more and more obvious why that was. Inconsistent defensive line play. We haven't been able to keep a strong unit on the field since Caldwell and Agnew left and that is the key to a strong defense. How can we expect our corners and sateties to do it all by themselves? It's basic football. The best way to defend the pass is to not let the quaterback throw the ball.

We as a team are now dedicated to putting the best four defensive linemen on the field for every game of every season. We will do whatever is financially and humanly possible to assure that this goal is reached each and every season.'

The Cincinnati Bengals, once one of the strongest offensive teams in the league, committed to defense.
