Vanderbeek: "No Excuse for my Rookie Season"

Vanderbeek agrees with SWA sportswriters that did not vote him for ROTY

Playoffs 2102 (Albany, NY) - Normally, a rookie defensive tackle that puts up strong sack numbers in his rookie campaign is a shoo-in for rookie of the year.

Toby Vanderbeek does not agree.

'I thought my rookie season was trash.' Vanderbeek said in an interview following the announcement that Eagles tight end Gary Hill won the 2102 SWA Rookie of the Year award. 'Hey, there were four people that thought so enough not to give me the nod, so you have to think that way. How good do you have to be in order to get noticed? I wasn't good enough, obviously, compared to Hill. Hill put up some insane numbers for the Eagles this season, there's no doubt about it. The guy's a future Hall of Famer, so that's why people voted for him. Nothing I can do about that. I don't think anything I could've done this season would compare. That's all you have to say about that.'

How will Vanderbeek bounce back? 'You just gotta move on and win games and get to the postseason, and I think we have enough to do that. We've been walked all over for awhile now, with the media shoving Morgan Capper down our throats like he's some big hero, and getting no respect in the voting this year. It's going to change, and I have faith in the ownership that things will change for the better. There really is no excuse for my poor performance this season, but I know I can improve and help this team to the playoffs in a couple of seasons.'
