Giants announce Ring of Honor member Walters as Head of Player Development

Malloy feels change is needed after potential stars flop in camps

Pre-Season 2103 (Albany, NY) - After watching top draft picks in recent years not prove themselves in training camp, Giants general manager Joe Malloy fired Todd Allen and hired Giants Ring of Honor member Bob Walters as head of player development.

'We drafted a ton of young talent with the gaurantee that we would be making the playoffs by now.' Malloy said at a press conference today. 'However, I did not like what I've been seeing lately. I've felt that our young talent's lagged behind the young talent of the other teams in this league, which is stunting our team's development and competitiveness. I felt a change was important for our future, and I decided that Bob Walters is the guy that can best pick out talent.'

Walters, who had been visiting Giants training camps since he retired, vowed to make his mark right away.

'Hey, I feel that we should have guys on the field at all times that can start for just about any team in the league.' Walters said. 'Some players are past their prime, others will never reach their prime. There are 15 players that are taking up roster spots and valuable cap money. Some of these guys were drafted because the Giants felt they could be contributing when they're ready. When will they be ready? That's a question that some of these players have answered already. I didn't like these answers. 'Never' is not acceptable.'

'I mortgaged my future in order to build for a championship with a great young core of players.' Malloy said. 'It's high time I foreclose on some of these guys. Walters emailed me his list of recommended departures, and I am going to try my best to correct the mistakes that were made after this season.'
