Johnson keeps kicking in Carolina

Panthers match Patriots free agent offer for Pro Bowl kicker
By "Bucky Katz"

Off-Season 2105 (Charlotte) - Apparently GM 'Trader' Lee Remley isn't the only one who gets a kick out of his kicker.

The Carolina Panthers matched the New England Patriots $3.5 million per year free agent offer to kicker Matt Johnson today, making him the highest paid kicker in the USAFL.

'I can think of two games that Matt won for us just last year, one of which was a playoff game,' Remley recalled. 'Needless to say there has been more over the six years he's been here. There was no way we were letting such an important part of our Sundby Cup run last year get away.'

'I am glad to stay here in Carolina,' Johnson told reporters at mini-camp today. 'Hopefully we can take that extra step this year and win a championship.'
