Giants Pre-Season Camp Notes

Giants don't know what to expect for the 2079 season

Pre-Season 2079 (University of Albany) - There is a feeling of rebuilding in the air, even though the Giants did not do a roster purge in the offseason.

'We kind of anticipated all of the retirements we've had over the last few seasons, so we drafted well in preperation.' GM Joe Malloy said in an interview following a traning camp session.

With the retirement of Allen Ritterspauch, and the signing of Jason Maxiner to the New England Patriots, the Giants offensive line features several inexperienced players.

'There's a few good young players on the offensive line.' Malloy says. 'However, we expected them to be ready for action by 2081. Sometimes it's good to get the on-the-field experience now, however.'

With an inexperienced offensive line, the Giants offense isn't expected to be near the top of the league like it's been the last couple of seasons. Malloy isn't worried.

'Porter's one of the best halfbacks in the entire league, and Tory Bush has some great targets at wide receiver. I think our offense will be just fine considering the learning experience our line will have to go through. Besides, Tim Spellman is a great teacher. Those kids are learning a lot. We're going to have a great offensive line unit in a couple of seasons.'

On the defensive side of the ball, first round draft pick Turner Way has quickly established himself as a starter.

'He still has the agility issues our scouts saw when we scouted him at the combine.' Defensive coordinator Linus Schreiber said about Way. 'But he has a fantastic work ethic, and his strength is incredible. We saw everything the scouts raved about him come out in training camp. He can start now, as far as I'm concerned.'

There is a more confident air around the Giants defense this offseason, compared to seasons in the past.

'I want to play. I've come into this league to play, and beat people up!' young linebacker Noah Miller said.

'That Noah Miller's a very hungry player.' Schreiber said. 'He watches tapes of some of the great Giants linebackers every day. I like what I see, and I think this league is going to like watching this kid when he's ready to start. Overall, I'd say our linebacking corps is one of the fastest in the league. That's what it's all about with this organization. Speed, and lots of it. Our linebacking corps overall might need some more work, but we have some guys that are going to get a lot better with two, maybe even one training camp. When you coimbine the hungriness of our linebackers and secondary, with Reeser and that defensive line, I think our defense is going to be a heck of a lot better than in season's past.'

What's in store for the Giants in 2079?

'I'm not sure.' Malloy said. 'Washington and Philly's coming up, Detroit should be pretty good, and who knows what to expect from Dallas. We got a fairly young team, considering rebuilding wasn't part of the plans. I'll be happy with a playoff spot, but I expect the young guys on this team to take a lot of the experiences from this season and work from there to be a Super Bowl contender in a few seasons.'
