Panthers re-enter free agent waters

Sheridan signed to anchor defensive line

Off-Season 2108 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers, one year removed from their first Sundby Cup, re-entered the free agent frenzy this off season and signed DT Roland Sheridan to a six year, $12.5 million per season deal.

Carolina has been concerned about their aging defensive line the past few seasons, as evidenced by their switching to the 3-4 scheme and bringing in several young players for the future.

'Roland is here to anchor the middle of our 3-4 defensive line,' GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said during the press conference to announce their new player. 'We think that with Corey Millard and Osgood Morrison, he gives us one of the better 3 man defensive lines in the league.'

The Panthers also have former first round picks Mike Rose and Terry Walker waiting in the wings on the defensive line along with this year's first round pick, Ned Kloak, but defensive coordinator See Pi Yu does not feel they are ready for prime time yet, so Carolina went out and got the veteran presence they needed for the next few years.

Observers now feel the Panthers have one more championship run in them with the addition of Sheridan to the veterans that brought them their first Sundby Cup. They still have the champion Chicago Bears and the Buffalo Bills dynasty to deal with, but insiders at Carolina's mini-camp feel better about their chances now.
