Front Office Rivalry Boils Over

Vikings GM Lou Lombardo makes changes and AGM Thul is out
By "Cole Winter"

Off-Season 2109 (Minneapolis, MN) - In a strange turn of events, the Minnesota front office imploded after the Vikings' final regular season game against the Detroit Lions. With the rebuilding process moving slower than hoped, there has been pressure on GM Lou Lombardo to possibly step aside with the team now five seasons removed from their last playoff appearance. It's widely known that Vikings' assistant GM Mark Thul is considered a rising young executive in the league and it has become trendy in Minnesota to want Thul in charge.

So, maybe it shouldn't come as a big surprise when Lombardo unexpectedly announced that Thul was being let go at the end of the season. 'Lombardo was getting paranoid that his job was in real jeopardy,' said one anonymous team source. 'When Mark won that Spirit Award last season it really set him off'. Specualtion abounds that Lombardo was trying to belittle Thul by making him do menial jobs around the offices including cleaning the bathrooms of the execuitve suite at the stadium. When Lombardo found out that Thul was doing league research without his knowledge it seemed like the clock was ticking.

When asked to comment on the firing Lombardo only said, 'I'm not going to comment on any of the speculative statements put forth by the media. I want to thank Mark for the time he has spent in the Minnesota organization and I wish him well in his future endeavors.' Translated: 'Boy I feel better about my job now that he is gone'

Where will Thul end up? It's widely known that several teams have already made a phone call to bring him in for an interview and it's just a matter of time before he lands on his feet in a good situation.
