Jones back for one last run

Panthers veteran QB says 2110 is finale of stellar career

Off-Season 2110 (Charlotte) - After much speculation that he would retire, especially after the Panthers recent Sundby Cup appearance, veteran QB Kevin Jones announced he was coming back for one last season.

'The outcome of the Sundby Cup was disappointing, I have to admit,' Jones said in a recent interview. 'I wanted to win so badly and go out on top. But I think we have one last run in us to get another one, so I am playing one last season in order to help do that.'

Jones broke the 50,000 yard mark last season with little fanfare. He is a very quiet, reserved person off the field, unlike other famous quarterbacks like Greg Toliver who boasted about his 50,000 yard effort for all to see.

But in the huddle, Jones is a force to be reckoned with. It was he who called out young running back Gerald Thomas earlier in the season when he felt he wasn't living up to the high standards of Panthers running backs of the past such as current fullback Leonard Castillo. Thomas responded with a solid end of season running the ball and was a force in the playoffs as well.

'When we say we need to keep up with Jones, we aren't kidding,' Thomas said when asked about his leader. 'He might be an old dude but he works harder than ever. The rest of us have to keep up.'

The Chicago Bears are hoping to have something to say about the Panthers quest for another Sundby, but Jones isn't worried.

'We wasn't given much chance to get to the Sundby this year,' Jones said with a grin. 'And look what happened.'
