Playoffs 2114 (Tempe, AZ) - The Sports Writers Association announced their 2114 Regular Season Awards this evening and the Steeltown faithful were in full force.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ electrifying tandem of QB Hamilton Petty and WR Leopold Greene made this year’s awards ceremony a suspenseful gala. Greene, the reigning MVP, was believed to be the front runner after posting his second consecutive 2,000 yard season. But it was his turn to throw one to his QB. In what became a very close race, QB Hamilton Petty walked off with the 2114 Bing Bennett MVP Award. Leading his team to the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year, Petty was 301 of 494 with 4,457yds, 30 TD’s and 8 INT’s. His passer rating of 103.9 was good for 12th on the modern era all-time list. Only Petty and Greene received any 1st Place votes with Petty getting the decisive extra nod that put him over the top. In fact, both players were the only ones named on every ballot.

Washington Redskins’ rookie S Andre Byner took home the Tim Arkwright Rookie of the Year Award after posting 78 tackles and 1 INT as the Skin’s starting S2. Byner was the unanimous choice for ROY, the first since Baltimore DB Mark Moxley on 2110. Byner was also the only player named on all seven ballots.

Chicago Bears’ GM John Z-Bo Zabroski was awarded the Jim Maurer GM of the Year award, his 3rd overall and first since winning back-to-back in 2106-07. Zabroski continues to field a very competitive team, winning another NFC West regular season title with an 11-3 record – also best in the league. His scheme selections and personnel moves always keep the Bears in the top of the league in both Offensive and Defensive categories.

Congratulations to all of the winners.
