Playoffs 2115 (Tempe, AZ) - The Sports Writers Association announced their 2115 Regular Season Awards last night with a familiar feel.

For the second straight year, Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB Hamilton Petty was named the 2115 Bing Bennett MVP Award winner. This makes the third year in a row that the Terrible Towels were waving after the MVP announcement. Steelers great WR Leopold Greene took home the award in 2113 after posting his second consecutive 2,000 yard season. Petty led his team to the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year, winning the AFC West Division crown along the way. He was 276 of 515 with 4,238yds, 34 TD’s and 14 INT’s. This was also the 2nd consecutive year Petty threw for over 4,000yds. It was a close race with four players receiving 1st Place votes – Petty, standout Cincinnati DE Les Mustafaa (league leader in sacks), electrifying Houston WR Steve Tilbury (20 TD’s) and bruising Baltimore RB Roman Simms (league rushing leader).

The New York Football Giants’ rookie DE Gene Wright took home the Tim Arkwright Rookie of the Year Award after posting 10 sacks and 33 tackles. Wright, the #2 overall pick in the 2115 Draft, won a starting job after a strong training camp. He was the only player named on all seven ballots. Wright was not able to accept his award, however, as he was absent from the ceremony. Some witnesses saw him outside the Buffalo General Psychiatric Hospital, where good friend and former college teammate Keith Caravello is rumored to be a patient. Caravello, you may recall, is the promising Buffalo Bills’ DE who inexplicably quit following his rookie season.

Baltimore Ravens’ GM Mark Thul was awarded the Jim Maurer GM of the Year award, his 2nd honor in the last three seasons. Thul won the AFC East Division title with an 12-1-1 record – also best in the league. He has built his team through deft trading and sound player scouting both before and after the draft. This past season alone Thul was involved in 7 of the 17 total trades. This is also Thul’s 2nd Mauer award in the last three seasons – winning it the last time Baltimore won the AFC East title in 2113.

Congratulations to all of the winners.
