No post mortem for Quincy in Carolina

Belk considering buying department stores with his $100 million plus windfall

Off-Season 2123 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers again kept one of their own as they matched the Washington Redskins five year, $20.11 million per year offer on defensive tackle Quincy Belk, making him at present the highest paid defensive lineman in the USAFL.

'We were determined to keep Quincy in Charlotte,' GM 'Trader' Lee Remley told the assemled media in the press conference this morning announcing the deal. 'We sacrificed and will have to sacrifice a bit more to make this happen, but there is a good reason. This man here is the best defensive lineman we've ever had. And we've had a lot of good ones, so that is saying something.'

The Panthers considered themselves fortunate that Belk got the only free agent offer with the quality of people they had eligible for free agency. With Belk now coming back along with the addition of HB Tommy Sheppard to a pretty good 9-5 team last season, Carolina looks to be in good shape entering the new season.
