Can they repeat?

Panthers look for second straight Sundby
By "Bucky Katz"

Off-Season 2124 (Charlotte) - As the 2124 season is about to dawn and fans are getting the next generation of holographic technology to watch this year's games, there is one questions that burns across the USAFL landscape. Can the Panthers repeat?

The last time Carolina won the Sundby, they couldn't repeat the deed, even though they returned to the big game. So the question is a valid one.

Many have been disappointed over the years that despite their winning ways overall, the Panthers never reached dynastic proportions as far as Sundby Cup wins as teams such as Baltimore and Buffalo have.

The road back will not be easy. The Panthers had both their backup HBs and their most prolific pass catching TE retire, and lost 2 of their 3 starting LBs last year to free agency and a trade.

GM 'Trader' Lee Remley will never be known as 'Stand Pat' like another GM in this league. He went out and got a couple of backup HBs and a new starting TE via trade. He even beefed up the wide receiver corps and the offensive line.

But Mike Nash and Ricky Hollifield, backup LBs on last year squad, have to step up for this team to repeat. Bert O'Neal, the free agent LB who went to Kansas City for a big contract the Panthers couldn't match and the team's leading tackler, will be sorely missed.

This team is relatively young. They have a nice mix of veterans and young players. But can they stay on top?

We'll find out soon.
