A Patriots Great is Honored

Off-Season 2136 (Boston, MA) - Opening day was a special celebration for the Patriots faithful this season. In a time of rebuilding they honor one of the greatest players who has ever played for the team. In a special Opening Day ceremony, LB Alex Smith, had his jersey retired and added to the stadium wall.

'Alex was always a special player and he was a great contributor during our record setting run,' said GM Addam Brown. 'I don't know what he meant to the rest of the League but to us he was a corner stone from beginning to end.' As for what he meant to the rest of the League? Well, Alex Smith did it all. A career that included 842 individual tackles, 128 sacks, 13 INT and 3 career safeties. It couldn't have been a more memorable opening day, either. An overtime win against the New York Giants that included a interception return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery in overtime was the icing on the cake for this special day. He was a special leader on a record setting team and his enshrinement will make sure everyone remembers #57 and what he meant to the Patriots Faithful.
