Birds Hand Ball To O'Neal

Eagles To Have New QB At The Helm In 2140
By "Jimmy James"

Pre-Season 2140 (South Philadelphia) - Just minutes before the USAFL 2140 final roster cut deadline, the Philadelphia Eagles made a big splash on the headlines by announcing that they were not only waiving their starting QB of the last several seasons, 12yr veteran Ken Travis, but also his back-up of 8 seasons, Michael Ward.

No mention of the rumors of a personnel squabble involving both of the QBs was noted, but the Birds spent the bulk of the time during an impromptu press conference to brag about the abilities of their new starting quarterback, 4yr veteran Darryll O'Neal.

'O'Neal has been a great team-player these past few years,' proclaimed Jill Prastiliak, the new spokesperson for the franchise, 'and we're proud to extend to him the honor of running our offense for the upcoming 2140 season.'

O'Neal had the humble opportunity of joining the Eagles back in 2136 - when the franchise failed to show up at the annual college draft. The Eagles made O'Neal their first selection when the Waiver Wire Claim special draft came around shortly before the training camp commenced.

The Eagles selected four players off the WWC that night back in 2136: QB Darryll O'Neal, FB Bob Nelson, S Keith Adkins, and DE Jim Lewis. All four are still with the team and are currently either starting or valuable contributor on the Special Teams units.

When asked if the move was motivated by the team's tough salary cap situation, Prastiliak responded by saying the team has added two-thousand 'standing-room-only' tickets for the home opener in week five when the Washington Redskins will be in town.

The Eagles also waived 2yr veterans OLs Billy Joe Jacobs and Mike Call.
