Learning On The Job

Giants young DL are getting an education
By "John Johnson"

Regular Season 2142 (Albany, NY) - The Giants are dead last in the league with sacks, and it's not even close. 14 sacks after 10 weeks would be a disappointment for almost every club.

For the young Giants defensive line, however, this spells progress.

'You can't get the experience without work.' defensive lineman Tony Rosenthal said. 'It's been a tough season, for sure, the stats don't lie, but we know we have talent. I'm having fun learning!'

The coaching staff and front office has been pleased with the rapid development of the players on the Giants defensive line, and anticipates them to be a dominating force within the next couple of years.

Lucas Neilson is the 'veteran' of the group, playing in his fifth season in the league.

'I've seen the veterans I started out with come and go and find success elsewhere. It's funny that I'm considered the old man of the group. I think the guys I'm looking after will turn out to be a great group of linemen. Everyone around here loves how they are turning out.'

Even though there is a lot of room to grow, and GM Joe Malloy believes that these players will be successful in the current defensive scheme, Malloy has stated in recent days he wants to bring in a veteran defensive end to help the younger players mature.

'Whatever our boss has to do to make us competitive, I'll go for it.' fourth round pick Charles Valentine said. 'The education, on and off the field, will only benefit everyone.'
