Victory Remembered...Peavey Hangs up Spikes!

By "Flutie Grogan"

Off-Season 2146 (Boston, MA) - New England faithful wake up a little more sad this morning. Not because day light savings time is looming and they'll lose and hour of beer this weekend. No, something much sadder is affecting the stalwarts...Victor Peavey is retiring.

'I never thought this would happen. I thought he'd play till he was 80. He was my rock on Sunday! It just won't be the same.' That was Cian Conlow. He's one of the faithful attending the candle light vigil at Malloy's Pub in downtown Boston. 'The thing to remember isn't how great he was but how solid he was. That guy was always there and always gave us a shot,' said Conlow. And, he may be on to something. After being drafted in 2131 he finally took the helm in 2134. Since that time he threw for over 35,000 yds. He took the Patriots to the playoffs two years later in 2136 and started a trend he didn't stop until his retirement. Peavey had 9 playoff appearances in his 12 years as a starter with two attempts at the Sundby in that time as well. He was awarded the USAFL Players Association's AFC Offensive MVP in both 2142 and 2143 but the biggest award he won was the hearts of the North East and Patriots fans everywhere. 'What...Peavey...I don't know? He told me to consider a veteran in Free Agency this year and as it got closer I started to see the writing,' said team GM Addam Brown. 'He knows his limitations better than I do. I just wish I could've done better and put together a winning team for him. If anyone ever deserved a Sundby Ring it's Peavey. I feel like I let him down.' GM Addam Brown refused anymore comments as he was obviously feeling the emotions of losing an old friend. As for Peavey, 'Hey guys, you know I love you all and this city. I'm still going to be active in the front office. Heck, who do you think told them to sign Brock. We have a lot of talent and I think this team will stay on top for quite a while.' On those words this reporter remains hopeful. A solemn promise from a stalwart great...what more could the Faithful ask for?
