New Day in Carolina

Retirements, Trades, Draft Picks create revolving door in team's off season

Off-Season 2146 (Charlotte) - A young quarterback who is about to break out and be the next franshise player. A halfback about to hit the prime of his career. A young receiving corps. A bunch of young players learning on the job.

This season will be quite a different one in Carolina. Many veterans retired or were sent packing in offseason trades. The past couple of seasons have brought many young players to build for the future, including possibly the team's next franchise quarterback.

Sent packing was last year's starter, Jonah Williams. Fans were heard to yell 'bring in Kevin Jones' (to which the league's commissioner responded 'I thought his name was Fred') even though the offensive coordinator has been retired for several years.

Another change on the team has been the lack of patience with young players.

'We used to be able to bring a young player into the system for several years behind veterans until they were ready for prime tine,' GM 'Trader' Lee Remley explained. 'Now they have to contribute a lot sooner or we go to the next guy.'

That being said, there were several recent high draft picks cut loose recently, a change from previous years where Carolina was seen as a team willing to be patient and even give other teams' former high picks a second chance. No longer.

With nine spots open on the roster, there will be even more new additions from the waiver wire.

'We will keep striving to improve the roster,' Remley said.

It will indeed be a different tyoe of season for the Panthers.
