Revolving Door

Panthers veterans, fans wonder who's next to go

Off-Season 2156 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers are seeing veterans leaving the team so fast that the team's equipment manager is talking about installing a revolving door.

'Those boys are leavin' like nobody's business,' the team's long time equipment manager, 68 year old A.B. 'Bernie' Stone, commented to the media types hanging around the locker room yesterday. 'Young 'uns comin' in, old 'uns headin' out. Never seen anythin' like it.'

Since announcing to the media he was back, their GM 'Trader' Lee Remley is living up to his name. Offensive tackles Tim Shayne and David Marsh, defensive tackle and former MVP Matt McDonald, linebackers Brian Erickson and Shane Sawyer, cornerback Tom Paige, and kicker Ray Williamson have all left the team via trades.

Word is, they aren't done yet.

Meanwhile, young linebackers Walter Gibson and Adam Dowling were acquired via trades and five players drafted last night are all making their first appearances at the team's minicamp, adding to the youth that will be the future of this club.

'People say we've given up, but we have some nice players here,' linebacker Mark Brad said. 'We are all going to hit our stride at the same time, so look out!'

Despite the player's exhuberance, Panthers fans are skeptical.

'I don't know, man,' the fan self-proclaimed as the 'Big Cat' (complete with #1 jersey) said as he watched the workouts. 'Seems like they're gettin' rid of too many guys. But who knows?'

The team's veterans who are left are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

'Who knows where I'll be next week,' veteran quarterback Travis Zimmerman said. 'I hope to be here, but I have no control over that. Only the man upstairs does.'

Right now, he isn't talking. He's still working the phones.
