Panthers seek new stadium, city balks

City of Charlotte says no one will come to see terrible team

Regular Season 2158 (Charlotte) - The kickoff of the Carolina Panthers 2158 season has been dampened by the cessation of negoitations between the team and the city on a new stadium.

'We need a new stadium in order to compete,' Panthers GM 'Trader' Lee Remley explained. 'Our stadium is seventy years old now. It doesn't even have the latest holographic technology. Our fans can't even beam into the stadium. They have to beam in to the transport station two blocks away and walk here. Not very convenient for the 22nd century football fan.'

'We feel that the Panthers performance would make a new stadium an expense we could never recoup,' Charlotte Mayor E.F. 'Bubba' Crankston III told the media this week. 'If you can't fill the place up, it's not worth it to have our citizens foot the deal for a new place for the Panthers to play.'

Rumors have already been circulating that perhaps a city in Remley's home state of Ohio might be willing to foot the bill to relocate the Panthers there. Given that the Panthers came here originally from Tampa Bay in 2088 a few years after Remley took over as GM, that possibility is not so far fetched.

But Remley dismisses such talk at this stage.

'Once the lease expires, that's always an option,' Remley replied when asked about the rumors. 'But I am looking forward to playing here in Charlotte for a long time to come. When push comes to shove, I don't think this city will allow their long time hometown team to go anywhere.'
