Talks reportedly break down between Panthers and City of Charlotte

City firm on no stadium for now 0-10 team

Regular Season 2158 (Charlotte) - Sources involved in the talks between the city of Charlotte and the Carolina Panthers have told SI that talks between the team and the city concerning a new stadium have broken down.

Reports have it that the city is standing firm on its stance of no stadium for a bad football team. The Panthers, on the other hand, are saying they cannot compete (as the past few seasons have shown) without a new facility.

So it seems talks are at a stand still and have in fact, broken off completely.

Neither the mayor's office, the Panthers front office, USAFL commissioner Andrew Lewis, nor any other USAFL official would comment on this story.

Many Carolina Panthers fans wonder what this will mean for football (if you can call it that lately) in their town.

'The Big Cat feels like he was just thrown in the deep end of the pool,' one of the most rapid of Panthers' fans, who dubs himself the 'Big Cat', told SI.

'I just don't get it,' shopping mall patron Gertrude Stroboingstram told SI as an antigrav full of shopping bags hovered behind her. 'Why does the foosball team think they need a new ball park?'

'These daggone idiots are gonna end up and lose us a football team,' sports bar patron Ian McFarland told SI as the Panthers latest loss was displayed on the holographic stage behind him. 'It just ain't right.'

The Panthers lease expires after the 2159 season, which leaves their future here in Charlotte beyond that in doubt with this latest revelation.

Could next year really be the last year of football in Charlotte after all these years?

Both Panthers fans and local businesses who count on the Panthers games to help beef up their bottom line are hoping it will not come to that.
