It's over

New Bengals streak of .500 or better since moving from Carolina ends abruptly

Off-Season 2175 (Cincinnati) - They started out 4-1, and ended up 6-8 after losing seven in a row.

Now it's over.

The Bengals streak of records of .500 or better going back to their move here from Carolina in 2160 is now over with their 6-8 mark this year. They also made the playoffs 11 out of 12 years after the move but that streak ended a few seasons ago.

Cincinnati fans who now expect winning teams (or at least breaking even recently) year in and year out are understandably upset. Chief among them is their GM.

'Get your popocrn ready because there's going to be a lot of changes,' GM 'Trader' Lee Remley vowed. 'This team has too big of a payroll to have veterans not playing up to snuff like they finished the season.'

But the veteran GM didn't stop there, to no one's surprise.

'We have a lot of young players just itching for a chance to prove themselves in the USAFL, and they work cheap. We'll just give those vets a chance to play elsewhere. If no one wants those guys, and as lousy as they have played, I can't blame them, then they'll rot on the end of our bench.'

In his almost 100 years in the league (at age 138 he doesn't look a day over 120), Remley has shown his willingness to rebuild a team from scratch when necessary, and long time observers expect that to happen once more in this case.

'That dude will sell out to the bare walls,' long time QB and former head coach Kevin Jones said in a phone interview. 'If those guys aren't doing the job, he'll get guys who will.'

This all makes for an interesting off-season. After all, it's never boring in Cincinnati following this team.
