Will they ever bring a Sundby Cup to Cincinnati?

Bengals management under fire for 0-4 record in Sundby Cup games
By "Who Dey"

Off-Season 2192 (Cincinnati) - 'Who Dey' has become 'When Dey'.

After losing another Sundby Cup game, Bengals fans are blaming the front office.

'When are these guys going to bring us a championship?' a fan in tiger stripes who called himself Tony commented as he departed the stadium after another loss.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Bengals management is asking the same question.

As a Carolina franchise, they were 2-3 in Sundby Cup games, not great, but not terrible either. But in Cincinnati, where they moved for the 2160 season, they have been 0-4. Not good at all.

Has GM 'Trader' Lee Remley lost his edge in recent years? Has he become senile at the ripe old age of 141?

'I might have more replacement parts than an old ground car Chevy, but my mind is still sharp,' Remley said when his age was mentioned. 'I forgot more about football than these young whipper snappers these days know. That's why I hired Kevin Jones, dang it. Great minds think alike.'

Remley might think the spread is something you do with your peanut butter, but he still knows the West Coast offense was actually invented in Cincinnati, not the West Coast where it became famous when a former Bengals offensive coordinator named Walsh started using it in San Francisco.

While the fans of some franchises in the USAFL would be happy to make four appearances in the season ending game in 30 seasons, people used to a team with a .600 winning percentage in that period of time expect a lot more. They expect to win.

It was one reason Courtney McLemore (not long ago former coach Kevin Jones) was hired as the head coach.

'Not good enough, obviously,' McLemore pointed out. 'I didn't come here to be in second place.'

The question is how to get over the hump. Some of the so called experts say the window on this current team is closing. After three of five offensive linemen retired once the Sundby Cup was over, many would agree. But the rest of the Bengals cast of characters are still intact, and if this team's history is any indication, they always have people ready to reload and go back to war the next season.

Many say it will ultimately come down to the golden arm of Steve Callahan.

'If Callahan had the game against New Orleans that he had against Buffalo in the AFC Championship, they win that game,' one USAFL expert said.

That would make Bengals fans extremely happy if that finally happened in 2192.
