Callahan retires with Sundby in hand

Bengals QB goes out on top
By "Who Dey"

Off-Season 2200 (Cincinnati) - It was a close game, and he has been there once before, but Cincinnati Bengals QB Steve Callahan ended his career with a Sundby Cup victory as the Bengals claimed their second in three seasons with a 9-7 victory over Detroit in the last game of the 2100s.

Callahan showed his typical cool reserve as he led the Bengals to their last score in the third quarter and watched the Bengals defensse hold on to the victory. Cincinnati only managed three field goals on the day, but Callahan's 18 of 30 day for 201 yards got them in position each time.

As usual, though, Callahan prasied others, the most important being Bradley Robinson's 114 rushing yards.

'Our running game and offensive line played great today,' Callahan said after the game. 'I just manage the game and avoid mistakes. Not to mention our great defense, who held those guys back all game long. These guys are the true heroes.'

Typical Callahan. As the high porfile leader of the team, he always took responsibility for the bad times and defected the glory to others in the good times. He often said that quarterbacks got too much glory when they were only one part of the team.

Many Bengals fans have trepidation now that their long time hero is gone to a coaching job guiding the Bengals future quarterbacks, the first of which is Dennis Garcia, who will take over in 2200. But Callahan says Garcia will do great.

'Dennis has a great arm and a good head of his shoulders,' Callahan said. 'And I'll still be around to make sure his ego doesn't get TOO big,' he laughed.

Meanwhile, the Bengals will enjoy their Sundby Cup championship and remember the guy who got them there.
