Andrew Hanks retires

Bengals most prolific interceptor calls it a career

Off-Season 2242 (Cincinnati ) - Among several Cincinnati Bengals who called it a career after the 2241 season was cornerback Andrew Hanks. Hanks retires as the leading interceptor in Bengals history with 21, and ran four back for scores in his illustrious career.

Born into a multi generational acting family, Andrew instead devoted his talents to the football field, where he starred at North Carolina and was drafted in the first round by the Bengals.

Cincinnati put him at safety as a rookie due to his size and hard hitting ability, but it soon became obvious that he had the skills to be a shut down corner. After a few years in the league, he got his opportunity and became one of the premier corners in the USAFL.

Andrew used to say his breakaway speed came from running away from all the girls chasing him as a young man. His homespun, often self depreciating humor and his willingness to sacrifice for the team made him both a fan favorite and a favorite in the locker room with his teammates.

The Bengals and their fans will miss Andrew Hanks as he rides off into the sunset. It will be a long time before we see his like again.
