Big offensive changes in the Natti

Bengals release triumvirate of offensive players that ruled for most of a decade

Off-Season 2254 (Cincinnati) - The Cincinnati Bengals list of cuts at the end of training camp listed some surprising names.

QB Duncan McKenzie, HB Kenneth Williams, and WR Gary Lang ruled the Bengals offense for the better part of a decade. Now they are free to go where they wish due to the salary cap and young players ready to step in.

'These guys have been a big part of our history, but this is a business,' Bengals GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said during the announcement, with was a solemn affair. 'We appreciate what these guys have done, but quite frankly, their skills have declined as seen by our offense last year. Being up against the cap, hard decisions had to be made.'

Losing so many key players from a team that went 9-5 last year could be viewed as a risk by some. But the Bengals insist they have been planning for this for years with their drafts.

Enter the dragon. Or rather QB Brian Watson, HB Brian Hudson, and WR Chad White, the new triumvirate. The two Brians have played back up roles their whole career and never started in the league before, while White has been playing #2 receiver to Lang for several seasons, albeit with impressive results.

The young players do not lack confidence, especially their rifle armed quarterback.

'It's going to be exciting around here this season with all us young players on offense,' Watson said. 'Our new TE Steve Spivey is great and our offensive line is awesome too.'

The fans are skeptical, of course, Bengals fans usually are, but we'll all see if these players live up to their own billing.

As for the players involved in the releases, they have their sights set on proving their old boss wrong.

'Atlanta already called and said they had a wee bit of cash for all three of us,' QB Duncan McKenzie said.

Can Cincinnati be the same team without these three? Will the young offense indeed be better? Only time will tell.
