Smith helps Cincinnati keep up with the Joneses

Off-Season 2269 (Cincinnati) - The Cincinnati Bengals signed LB Brian Smith from Atlanta today to a $17 million dollar a year, five year contact, vastly upgrading their linebacker corps over last season.

Pairing Smith with can’t miss first round pick David Swafford and last year’s Rookie of the Year candidate Bart Bell will upgrade a Cincinnati defense which gave up a whopping 457 points last season and give them a solid basis for the future.

“I met Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and they’re good people,” Bengals GM “Trader” Lee Remley said at the team pep rally where they announced the signing. “I think Brian will be a solid contributor for several seasons here.”

Some questioned Cincinnati signing a free agent while they were in a rebuild mode.

“We owe it to our fans to put a good product on the field,” Remley snapped in reply. “I know people are going to say I never met a linebacker I didn’t like, but we are always going to be competitive.”
