Cincinnati makes playoffs the year after picking #2 overall

Off-Season 2269 (Cincinnati) - A year after picking #2 overall, the Cincinnati Bengals are once again in the playoffs, to everyone's surprise. No one is more surprised than their GM.

'I think everyone, including me, was thinking this would just be one more step in the retooling of this team,' Bengals GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said to the media.

The additions of DT Dan Phillips and LB Brian Smith did a lot to upgrade a defense that quite frankly, stunk last season. Rookie LB David Swafford also made an immediate impact. Added to offensive players such as sophomore RB James White and veteran QB Pat McCullough, they gave the young team a good chance in their games last season.

A huge turnaround like this is impressive. If GM Remley doesn't win GM of the Year after this turnaround, they need to retire the award.

'I won't get into all that,' Remley said. 'I politic for my players all day long, but not for myself. Swafford is definitely Rookie of the Year and McCullough should be considered for MVP, in my not so humble opinion.'

The Bengals future looks bright after this season's performance. Can they get past the first round of the playoffs? Will they make it back to the Sundby Cup so soon? Do they honestly think they can break the Green Bay juggernaut? These young Bengals are confident.

'We aren't afraid to take on anybody,' running back James White said. 'The Brownies better be ready for us!'

Confident indeed.
